Trading Standards, Police, and HM Revenue & Customs support

The ELSPA IP Crime Unit fully supports other enforcement agencies in the fight against intellectual property theft. We assist Trading Standards Officers, Police and HM Revenue & Customs in investigating software piracy by offering the following FREE services :

  • Attendance at search warrants, inspection visits and interviews
  • Assistance with test purchases
  • Witness statements and court attendance
  • Forensic examination of software and hardware
  • Copyright and Trade Mark information
  • Storage for large quantities of seized product
  • Training courses to suit requirements

We realise that agencies sometimes have limited resources to allocate to Anti-piracy work and our investigators will therefore respond to information provided by enforcement agencies/ business/ public and visit Markets and car boot sales to monitor product being sold. We will conduct full investigations/ surveillance/ test purchases in respect of alleged offenders and provide enforcement agencies with an ELSPA EVIDENCE PACK, containing all the information necessary to obtain a search warrant or to effect an arrest.

ELSPA recognises the increasing use of the internet by pirates to sell their illegal product. We therefore have our own dedicated internet investigator who will track down these people and again provide all necessary evidence for action by ourselves or enforcement agencies. If you have any information about illegal internet sales or web sites, you can contact our investigator at piracy@elspa.com, complete our piracy report form or call the IP Crime helpline on 0870 5133405.
